Indoor Rock Climbing:”Stairway to Heaven”

Clip ‘N Climb is one of Auckland’s Leading Indoor Rock Climbing Centres and there is one climb that is always a crowd favourite.

It’s called the Stairway to Heaven and it’s made up of 13 poles that start less than a metre high and end up over 6 metres tall. The higher you go the more they wobble and the last three can move like the wind. The challenge is easy. Step from one pole to the next until you reach the top.

Sounds easy but with each step you get higher and higher and then the wobbles start and then the mind takes over.

Of course you are perfectly safe, being clipped into Clip ‘N Climb’s automatic belay line, but the wobbles and the fact that there is nothing to hold onto creates all sorts of challenges for the indoor rock climber.

It’s always fun watching the inner struggles as the climber gets higher and then once at the top the easy way down is to jump.

For some that part is the hardest of all as there is nothing to hold onto and the ground looks a long way down

Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd is open from 10am 7 days a week and closes at 8pm weekdays and 6pm weekends.

Each climbing session last just over an hour and bookings are essential

A Vertical Drop Slide & Indoor Rock Climbing

Posted by admin in Birthday party activity, Childrens entertainment, Entertainment & Recreation, Indoor Climbing, Indoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Indoors | Leave a comment

At Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd there is a feature activity that is not found in many other indoor rock climbing centres. It’s the Vertical Drop Slide and it’s 8 metres of pure adrenalin surging free fall!

Gravity helps bring you down in a pure free fall. Although indoor rock climbing is all about safety and being attached to a line, this activity uses simple physics and the law of gravity to create a sensation of jumping out of a helicopter before the parachute opens.

Watching the faces of the climber’s who ‘ride’ the slide you can see the sheer terror being replaced by sheer exhilaration as they safely ‘Drop” to the ground.

Couple the fact that just before you let go your body isn’t touching the wall and your mind really start’s to play tricks.

Children having their birthday party at Clip’N Climb Dominion Rd get the choice of a Free Vertical Drop Slide or the Leap of Faith as a birthday gift from the Clip ‘N Climb team.

Needless to say the Vertical Drop Slide is a crowd favourite.

Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd is open 7 days a week from 10am and bookings are essential.

As an indoor rock climbing centre there are plenty of traditional climbs as well as the Clip ‘N Climb specials.

Reindeer’s Can Rock Climb Indoors!

Posted by admin in christmas party, Corporate event, Entertainment & Recreation, Indoor Climbing, Indoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Indoors | Tagged , , , , , , , , , | Leave a comment

Today Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd hosted a Christmas party with a difference.

The local Vet Clinic decided they would have a great race style event and use Clip ‘N Climb as one of the challenges.

The staff were divided into teams and at Clip ‘N Climb they had to select 1 member to climb.

The challenge was a choice of a traditional indoor rock climbing wall or taking on the Leap of Faith!

The Leap of Faith is a 6.5 metre pole that is climbed before leaping off to try to catch the trapeze bar!

The trapeze can be moved from half a metre to 10 metres away.

The leaper is attached by a full body harness that is connected at the back.

One of the teams that arrived today had the theme of Christmas reindeer’s, complete with reindeer horns.

It was quite a sight to see this reindeer hooded vet climbing the Leap of Faith.

He was overheard suggesting the traditional indoor rock climbing wall may have been an easier pick but it was great to see him rise to the challenge and complete the task and pick up valuable points for his team.

As soon as the teams had completed their climbs they were off to the next part of the race.

They are all looking forward to returning and being able to enjoy a more leisurely climb on one of the 35 indoor rock climbing walls that are available at Clip’N Climb Dominion Rd

An Indoor Rock Climbing session and Dominion Rd’s Clip ‘N Climb is the perfect way to achieve both.

This morning the centre was full of with a corporate group having their annual Christmas function.

We wanted something different this year and Clip ‘N Climb has provided that.

We never thought indoor rock climbing would be something that al the team could do but everyone is so excited. It’s such an amazing place.

The beauty of the indoor rock climbing walls at Clip ‘N Climb is that they are designed for the novice climber but at the same time challenging the experienced climber.

This is achieved by well designed walls that have 3 different levels on each climb.

This group was also doing the Leap of Faith and the Vertical Drop Slide, two high adrenaline activities.

It’s really great to be out of the office and doing something healthy and fun the workplace organiser was reported as saying.

a couple of the fitter one’s were eying the speed climb record but after a couple of attempts it looks safe for now.

May be next year Nigel was heard to mutter.

Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd is the perfect place for that ‘different’ Christmas function.

Indoor Rock Climbing for ‘Bright Sparks’ & the Autistic

Posted by admin in autistism, Childrens entertainment, Entertainment & Recreation, Indoor Climbing, Indoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Indoors | Tagged | Leave a comment

It’s 9am Sunday morning and while most people are still coming to terms with the day Clip’N Climb Dominion Rd’s Duty Manager Liam Prestidge-Oldfield is busy.

Every Sunday we open Clip’N Climb Dominion Rd an hour early and run a private session for autistic kids. It was originaly organised by the support group ‘Bright Sparks’ but when they closed a couple of months ago the parents were keen to have the service continue.

I ‘ve been here for over 2 years says Liam and it’s been great to watch the kids as they have grown.

When they arrive they tend to be a little nervous but the community spirit is strong and when they get their confidence they are amazing to watch.

The beauty of the private indoor rock climbing session is that the children can be themselves and have the intensive parental input that so many of these children need.

Indoor rock climbing is great exercise for the kids and we have so many different climbs here that the hour goes really quickly. Siblings of the climber can also come and climb in this private session.

Liam said that there was always room for other families with austic or special needs children to come and join this session.

It starts at 9am and finishes at 10am during the school term. anyone interested in joining should phone Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd on 09 630 6040

Indoor Rock Climbing…. The Perfect Fundraiser

Posted by admin in Childrens entertainment, Entertainment & Recreation, Indoor Climbing, Indoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Indoors | Tagged , , , | Leave a comment

Indoor rock climbing is the perfect school fundraiser.
Last night over 80 puplis from Newmarket Primary School (www.newmarket.school.nz) came to Dominion Rd’s Clip ‘N Climb for their annual fundraising night.

“The kids had a fantastic time.” said Duty Manager Amy Fastnedge.

“It creates a real sense of community and it’s great to see the little kids gaining confidence as they climb the indoor rock climbing walls and the other themed climbs that Clip’N Climb offer.”

From an organisers point of view it’s pretty hassle free as well. The school is provided with pre-printed session tickets which they sell. Clip ‘N Climb discounts the price as their contribution to the community.

Amy thinks that selling indoor rock climbing tickets is a really healthy alternative to more traditional things that schools sell to raise money.

Indoor rock climbing is such a healthy sport and to have up to 100 families from the same school all together participating in a fun, healthy activity is great.

Clip ‘N Climb have a wide range of walls that provide indoor rcok climbing challenges for all levels of climbers.

Amy says ” If you can walk you can climb.”

Just to prove that age is no barrier there was a 64 year old grand dad climbing and he had so much fun.

He was reported as saying “It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve climbed anything remotely that high and that was so much fun.”

For a quick and painless way to raise funds any non profit organisation should contact Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd (09) 630 6040

Clip ‘N Climbs Hosts 2010 Get 2 Go

Posted by admin in Childrens entertainment, Entertainment & Recreation, Indoor Climbing, Indoor Rock Climbing, Rock Climbing Indoors, Uncategorized | Tagged , , , , , , , | Leave a comment

This year’s 2010 Get 2 Go was a keenly fought event between dozens of schools around New Zealand.

Get 2 Go is a national youth event that is organised by the Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Turangi ( http://www.opc.org.nz/ )

As in previous years Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd provided the facilities for the Indoor Rock Climbing portion of the day.

With a wide variety of climbs over several degrees of difficulty it was perfect for schools to be able to score valuable points.

Every school had the aim of winning the Regional Finals and being able to participate in the Grand National Final competing against schools selected from through out NZ.

Shaun Collins produced a very nice photo montage of the day and as they say… a picture paints a thousand word.

You can see how the climbers scaled the heights of the walls at Clip ‘N Climb and the other activities that had them working hard, both individually and more importantly as a team.

If you are interested in trying the climbs that those schools who participated in the 2010 Get 2 Go challenge  did then phone and make a booking and come and climb at Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd

Indoor Rock Climbing – A Family Sport

Posted by admin in Childrens entertainment, Uncategorized | Tagged , , , , , | Leave a comment

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how young you feel, there is something for everyone at one of Auckland’s leading Indoor Rock Climbing Centre’s Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd.

“The oldest climber we have had is 74 years old and she was a very fit grandma.” says Duty Manager Ties Coomber.

Ties also thinks the youngest climber was just under two, although to be fair the boy was more interested in walking around with the harness on rather than climbing.

Ties said ” He looked very important and the fact he had a harness on while his big sister and brother climbed made the day for both him and his Mum.”

Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd caters for all age ranges and is something all family members can do together.

For those who are not fit there are plenty of walls that offer an ‘easy’ climb and for those who really want to be challenged the ‘Real Rock‘ on the back wall will keep you going session after session.

To avoid over crowding Clip ‘N Climb Dominion Rd offers climbing sessions that start on the hour, every hour from 10am, 7 days a week.

Ties recommends that everyone books ahead to  ensure that there is a space available.

Get the family together and come and climb at Clip ‘N Climb and experience real family together time.
